Free Old Testament Language Learning Audio

New - Check out this post on an absolutely free video Biblical Hebrew course. No trial or anything, just a dedicated individual wanting to make a contribution to the community of those interested in Biblical Hebrew.

For learning the Hebrew aleph-bet (alphabet for the uninitiated), I have recorded and posted a version of the Hebrew aleph bet set to the Tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" (i.e. just like you learned the English alphabet). The following video has been posted on Youtube. This is the slow version; however I have also recorded a medium speed version and a fast version and posted them on Youtube as well. If the version below is too slow be sure to check those videos out HERE. (Please no comments on Youtube about my horrible singing ;-))

If you can't get into "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" I have also posted a page with
Alpeh Bet Rock. New - audio on the rules of dagesh, i.e. rules having to do with the BiG DuK PoT Letters.

Though these are for Modern Hebrew, the University of Texas at Austin has a number of helpful tutorials for learning the Aleph Bet on their
Hebrew language site. These tutorials are in flash and contain an audio component. Thanks to Esther Raizen for putting together these tutorials.

For Old Testament Hebrew vocabulary audio, the only resources I am aware of that you can get for free are The Basics of Biblical Hebrew Vocabulary and Old Testament Hebrew Vocabulary: Learn on the Go. For these items, you would need to do a Free Trial of Audible.

For an audio version of the Hebrew of the Old Testament, go to
Zalag.net. They have a full version of the Tanakh available for free online listening and for download (though you will need to donwload each chapter individually). This is helpful as Audioscriptures.org has changed these files to streaming.

Modern Hebrew - Since learning Modern Hebrew can be helpful for learning Biblical Hebrew, I am posting some free Modern resources on the site now. For a free course in Modern Hebrew, visit the Foreign Service Institute Hebrew page. And, for the best Hebrew flashcards available, (though this is not for Biblical Hebrew) visit Transparent Language for their Free Before You Know It Hebrew cards.

Non Audio - Also check out these non audio resources for Biblical Hebrew including lexicons, grammars, and vocabulary texts.
