On this page you’ll find - links to a free trial program where you can get a free NIV Dramatized Audio Bible with a video demonstration (see down below), a site that provides a download the Contemporary English Version free of charge, a number of sites that offer free out of copyright Bible versions for download, and sites that provide streamed audio Bibles.

In my estimation, the best place to find a free Old Testament Audio Bible (at least in terms of quality) is Audible.com through a Free Trial of their Gold program (see video below for a demonstration). You get to choose from some very well produced audio copies of the scriptures like the NIV Dramatized audio Bible Old and New Testaments. Two other pluses with Audible are that they integrate very well with most audio programs like iTunes and they use the most current audio formats. The formats can be important since if you download Mp3 format Old Testament audio files, those files are going to be enormous, taking a long time to download and taking up considerable space on your hard drive. Audible's texts will not do that; however, it is a trial. So, it is a tradeoff: Are you willing to sign up for a trial to get the best quality Old Testament audio for free? Or, would you rather not sign up for a trial and be willing to work with a little more difficult process and larger files?



If you want to go the latter route, it would be impossible to search through all of the sites that claim to have free audio Bible downloads. I will give you a general rule of thumb though. Any Bible translation out of copyright should be easy to find for audio download. For instance, you should have no trouble finding a free King James Version Audio Bible download. Others might be the Authorized standard version or the Revised standard version.

Another option for a free Old Testament audio Bible is BibleGateway.com. They have very good quality audio Bibles in Flash and RealPlayer formats. They have the versions done by Max McClean and other well-known readers. The only issue with this is that I do not think they are available for download. You will need to listen to these at your computer.

- Here is a link to a free download of a King James Version audio Bible. The KJV is an out of copyright text so this is a completely legal download. The only issue is that you will have to download it book-by-book and arrange it on your computer. This is made possible by AudioTreasure.com. Thanks to them for making this opportunity possible.

- Absolutely free Old Testament audio Bible from Librivox. This is a link to the World English Bible Old Testament in audio format from Librvox.org. The file is enormous (1.6GB), so you may want to plan on your computer being tied up for a while. But, it's free! Scroll down to where it says "zip file of the entire book." This site also has the World English Bible New Testament and a Douay Rheims Version of the Apocrypha.

- Free sample of the Bible Experience Old Testament from Audible. This sample is the Creation story and will give you an idea of what this audio Bible sounds like. International users may try the UK and Germany sites.
